Outer Space is hiring a Gallery Assistant to assist and support the day-to-day gallery tasks including visitor experience and event support. This is a part-time role for 2 days a week, working Fridays and Saturdays.
Pay: $48,000 annual salary, pro-rata 0.4 + superannuation
Start date: 7 February 2025

Gallery Assistant
Key Responsibilities
Welcome and engage with Outer Space audience members, providing tours or additional information about the exhibiting artists and exhibition themes.
Manage general queries from the public about Outer Space and our current artistic and professional development program offerings.
Alert audience members to guidelines around navigating the gallery, including the accommodation of diverse access needs and ensuring artworks are not touched (where appropriate).
Independently undertake the gallery opening and closing procedures on Fridays and Saturdays. Please note these workdays are non-negotiable.
Record and report on attendance numbers and feedback surveys.
Service the bar at each opening event and manage the point of sale.
Keep informed of Outer Space’s current exhibition program and upcoming public programs.
Manage the sale of merchandise (as required).
About You
Essential
Excellent communication and customer service skills, with proven experience working with diverse audiences.
Commitment to ensuring an accessible, engaging and positive visitor experience.
Possession of a valid RSA certificate.
Demonstrates excellent teamwork and a proactive attitude, always willing to contribute wherever needed.
Passion for supporting experimental and emerging contemporary arts practices.
A warm, proactive and confident approach.
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications or professional experience in visual arts or art history. Honours, Masters and Undergraduate students are also encouraged to apply.
Experience in basic event production, such as setting up Technical and AV equipment.
