SUPERCUT x NICHOLAS ALOISIO-SHEARER
21 November 2022 onwards
Scorn
Scorn takes as its subject the Greek myth of Diana and Actaeon, as told by the poet Ovid and represented through history by artists such as Titian. This contemporary retelling of the myth appears to take place within a hyper saturated video game world, with the viewer taking the place of Actaeon, the hunter doomed for spying upon the goddess Diana. Here the viewer’s complicity in gazing upon the divine is punished. Appropriating the conventions of a First-Person Shooter, the work asserts the act of looking, even upon a 3D computer generated world, as an act of violence.
