Traverse is a three-channel video projection depicting a journey through an array of distorted natural landscapes accompanied by ethereal sounds. Together they grow into a haunting experience leading into a climax of nothingness; a reflection of Anna’s ambivalent feelings towards her existence. This sublime experience is meditative yet menacing evoking a space for contemplation. The imagery of the environment reflects Anna’s subjective experience of the diverse alpine environment in the Leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) National Park where she spent three weeks undertaking an artist residency during Winter this year. Permission to film was granted by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. The artist would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) National Park where this project was created.

Anna Litwinowicz is an emerging artist who explores her lived experience of nature as a way to address existential questions that stems from research into science, theoretical physics and philosophy. Anna recently graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Art (Visual Art) degree from the Queensland University of Technology. Her experience includes being involved in selected national publications, group exhibitions and residencies. More recently, Anna was selected as one of the eighteen emerging artists curated into Hatched, the national graduate show held at PICA in Perth. Additionally, Anna undertook a three-week residency at the Wilderness Gallery in Leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) National Park, Tasmania, this year where Traverse was created.
