SPB #33 in pink composition
2023
Low sheen interior/exterior acrylic on solid pine and plywood
100 x 100 x 20cm

SPB #35
2023
Low sheen interior/exterior acrylic on solid pine and plywood
28 x 28 x 28cm

SPB #35 is a three-dimensional painting that takes its composition from a cross-section of SPB #33 in pink composition. Translating the imagined internal dimensionality existing inside the larger work the cube emerges from within. What reveals itself is materiality of construction - the wood grain of the pine and plywood forms and the brushstroke of acrylic house paint is celebrated rather than concealed.

Petalia Humphreys creates candy-coloured three-dimensional paintings and installations. Employing reductive abstraction her playful architectonic inspired works celebrate the legacy of material and a genealogy of art making and woodworking - constructing site-responsive built forms that map domestic spaces.

Petalia has worked as a secondary and tertiary educator and exhibited at the Institute of Modern Art, Metro Arts, Five Walls and Outer Space. Petalia has been commissioned for multiple public art projects and exhibited regionally at Noosa Regional Gallery, Floating Land and Caloundra Regional Gallery. She is founder, producer and curator for Studio 26, a project that curates opportunities for mentoring, critical conversation and exhibitions. Petalia lives and works in Peregian Beach, on Gubbi Gubbi country.
