Death Drive Listening Party and Launch of Canal #2 co-hosted with Shell Like

A collective listening session of new recordings and sound works by national and international artists and writers. The programme will traverse death, desire and survival through works by poets and artists Aisha Sasha John (Toronto), Hannah Regel (London), Rebecca Close (Barcelona), and Death Drive exhibiting artists Mariana Echeverri, Madeleine Stack ft. Mikatsiu, and Yantan Ministry’s collaboration with Jennifer Boyd.

This closing party for Death Drive will also launch issue 2 of Canal, an occasional publication of politics, poetics and errant texts edited by Madeleine Stack and Bjørk Grue Lidin. Echeverri, Boyd, Close and John are contributors to this issue, as well as writers including Elisabeth Lebovici, Sara Torres Eileen R. Tabios, Thelathia ‘Nikki’ Young and Grace Shuyi Liew. Issues will be sold at a special discounted rate on the night.

This event is co-hosted with Shell Like, a collaborative project by writers Amy Lay-Pettifer and Jennifer Boyd, which creates a dedicated space for sound work and focuses on the importance of listening - particularly as a group - as a vital social and political act. Most often, this takes the form of hour-long listening events featuring existing and newly commissioned audio works by UK-based and international artists and writers. To date they have organised listening hours at Guest Projects, Artsadmin, LUX Moving Image in London, Sidney Cooper Gallery in Canterbury and Eastside Projects in Birmingham, and worked with artists including Etel Adnan, Tai Shani, Larry Achiampong, Ain Bailey and Heather Phillipson.
