Death Drive: Writing Workshop

with Jennifer Boyd

2 February 2020

Writing in Times of Crisis with Jennifer Boyd

This workshop will focus on writing through fragments, montage and alchemic mixes of source material - methods that stand in opposition to linearity (either because it’s impossible to think straight, or doing so isn’t desired). It will look to painters such as Hilma af Klint and Charlotte Salomon - who created a series of 769 works in a state of urgency before her early death - and writers such as Barbara Mor - who channelled her first poetry book when she had nothing, in a midwestern Burger King surviving on refill coffee - and Clarice Lispector. Through a small number of physical exercises in the exhibition space, solo and collaborative writing exercises, those who come will be encouraged to focus on sensations, follow gut instincts, and allow their tongues to run.

This workshop is suitable for all physical abilities and levels. No previous experience is necessary and no preparation is required or encouraged. The gallery space is fully accessible and physical exercises are minimal and tailored to the group. Please come as you are.
